Fall In Love With The Newborn King

Fall In Love With The Newborn King

By now you probably know that I am in LOVE with The NEWBORN KING stamp set from the Stampin’ Up! 2014 Holiday Catalog.  It embodies what Christmas is about, Christ.  It doesn’t talk about Santa, or presents, or the Tree, or lights, or even cookies and Christmas dinner. It shows love, peace, and joy.  It shows sacrifice, adoration, and hope.

This is SO much more than a stamp set. This card truly means the world to me.  It is an everyday reminder of how great God is and what an amazing life we have because of Christ.

So, for my personal Christmas cards, I knew I wanted to use this special stamp set to share the amazing story of Christ with others.  Alright, without further chatter, here it is:

Three Ways to Be Merry!

Three Hand Stamped Cards that Will Make You Merry

I recently had a Stamp-a-Stack Stampin’ Up! style for my customers to make 24 Christmas cards at once and get them mailed out to their friends and family.  I wanted to design simple cards that were still nice looking and had more than one layer.  While my friends were stamping away, I was alongside them stamping the same cards as quickly as I could, so that I too can mail out cards.  (Still haven’t put them in the mail, eek!)  I’m here to share them with you today, with a quick supply list in case you are a last minute crafter like me.

Penguin Party with Oval Framelits

How ADORABLE are these penguins?  I was asked to help make decorations for a wintery baby shower and penguins became the theme.  I Pintereste’d some ideas and found that the Oval Framelits would be a good size to make large penguins to add to a banner and as table decorations. These cute little guys stand at a whopping 5 1/2″ inches tall.

Are you ready to make these cuties?!? Grab your Big Shot and Oval framelits and let’s get started.  For each penguin, you will need one half sheet of Black card stock and one half sheet of White card stock.  You will also need Coastal Cabana, Real Red, and Pumpkin Pie scraps for the nose, feet, and penguin scarves.

Stampin’ Up! Supplies:

  • Oval Framelits
  • Big Shot
  • Curly Label Punch
  • Basic Black card stock
  • Whisper White card stock
  • Coastal Cabana card stock
  • Real Red card stock
  • Pumpkin Pie card stock
  • Googlie eyes
  • Solo cup to trace the head shape

Below I have created a graphic to show you which Ovals you will need to create the penguins.  I have also numbered them from outside (1) to the innermost, smallest oval (7).  The penguin body is the third larges, his belly is the 4th largest and the face also uses framelit 4, cut to fit the circular head.  The wing is made from framelit number 7, cut down the middle vertically.

While you are at it, you will need to cut out 2 curly labels, one for the feet (cut it in half and you have both feet) and one for the nose.  To make the nose, cut from the pointy center point to the other pointy center point (the one straight across) in an arc, to form an rounded nose (See diagram below).

Body: Adhere White Oval size 4 to the body, Black Oval size 3. Adhere feet to back of penguin.

Face: To form the face, trace the bottom of a Solo cup onto Black card stock and cut out by hand.  Slim down the white oval for face and adhere.  Use liquid glue to adhere the googlie eye to your penguin. Attach nose behind penguin’s face.  Adhere face to body, slightly overlapping.

Scarf: To make the scarf cut a 1/2″ by 8 1/2″ strip. Break down the fibers by rolling the strip against a bone folder.  Wrap the scarf around the neck and fold one side forward.  Adhere on front and back and cut fringe on each end of the scarf.

Wing: Lastly, adhere the half Black Oval size 7 to the body with the straight edge facing outward (away from face), tucking it slightly under the wing.

Easy Peasy Handmade Christmas Gifts

The holidays are quickly approaching which means it’s time to start with the gift giving preparation.
It’s really special to be able to give handmade gifts to those who you love, care about and impact your daily life. But it’s also a lot if work, so to cut down on time I’ve come up with the cutest treat bags that I will fill with cookies and cards.
1. Cut glimmer paper to 1/2″ x 4″ strips. Adhere near bottom third of Polka Dot Bag (10 to a pack for $3.95).
2. Use Big Shot to cut the two second and third to largest Star Framelits from Under The Tree designer series paper.
3. Adhere stars to one another and adhere the top third the the folded over bag, as a topper.
4. Stamp the flourish tree from Festival of Trees in Crumb Cake onto Vanilla cardstock, cut and adhere to stars.
5. Fill with treats or handstamped cards.

Happy Crafting!!

Advent Calendar Stampin’ Up! Style

One of my favorite parts of the Stampin’ Up! Holiday Catalog is the Stampin’ Up! Holiday Catalog.  Confused?  Let me reword that, I love the samples and ideas that come along with the Holiday Catalog and this one is no exception.  They displayed an Advent calendar using the mini boxes and I thought, Hey, that’s a great idea, Let me jazz it up.

So that’s what I did.  I created a cute little- and by little I mean TWO FEET tall- advent calendar to count down the days in December.  That’s almost as tall as my end table. Although it uses the Tiny Treat Boxes (25 included in the pack!) it’s no tiny treat holder.  Each box measures 2″x 2″x 2″.  After assembling the boxes, I stamped the numbered days from 25 Days stamp set in Momento Ink onto alternating Cherry Cobbler and Old Olive card stock. I punched them out with 1 3/4″ circle, 2″ circle, Label Bracket punch, and hand cut a few for added effect.

I added touches of Gold Glimmer paper, gold sequins and doodles with the White Gel pen to highlight areas of the calendar.

Santa Stache with an Update on Stampin’ Up!

Before I tell you all about the weekly deals and the newest stamp set, I wanted to share an adorable craft I worked on yesterday.  It was Columbus Day, so I was at home crafting most of the afternoon.

I am in love with the mustache framelit.  It’s funny and cute and can be used in so many ways.  I also really like the new Curvy Keepsake Thinlit Die from the 2014 Stampin’ Up! Holiday Catalog. If you are on Pinterest, you have also probably seen hundreds of cute and creative ways to use the die (See them here).  I like the Santa curvy keepsake treats, but I thought Santa needed a mustache.  So, I played around with paper until I found the best way to put a mustache on Santa and still be able to open and close the treat box.  Here is what the front looks like.  Below I will show and tell you how to make it work.

Stampin Up Santa Stache Curvy Keepsake by April Waltrip at Stampin Fool

This is the backside of the Santa Curvy Keepsake box.  To create the Stache on the front, you will need to pull the back handle to the middle and fold both side slotted closures over the back handle. Leave the front handle free and loop white Baker’s twine through the two handles.  Then attach the mustache die cut to the top of the front handle, leaving the middle adhesive free so that the twine can move.  Tie the twine into a bow and your done! Ta-Da! You have a Santa with a stache.

The newest Photopolymer (completely clear) Stamp Set from Stampin’ Up! is now available for purchase.  It is $15.95 and is perfect for this year’s Christmas Cards.  You will want to use Momento Ink with the photopolymer stamps as it hold the ink well enough to transfer it to the card stock and does not smear when colored with our Blendabilities.
