DIY Paint and Peel Tape Father’s Day Gift

DIY Father's Day Gift canvas painting. Get creative with your family #followyourart #gymboree #sponsored

This week while I was browsing Facebook, I noticed Gymboree’s #FollowYourArt.  I immediately thought about how perfect it would be to share with you a quick and easy Father’s Day project as a way of showing you how our family gets creative.

Do you know why we love crafting?

  1. It gets my brain working
  2. It keeps my wild child entertained – he has soon much energy, I have to direct it somewhere!
  3. Stress reliever. I’m starting to think that it may not be cheaper than therapy when you add up all of the crafting I dabble in, but for the occasional DIYer it’s definitely cheaper than therapy ;)

On to the good stuff!!  Do you want a quick and easy DIY Father’s Day gift? I am always wracking my brain for Father’s Day gift ideas and this is one of my favorites.  You can repeat it year after year and it never gets old! (Trust me, the hubs has an entire wall in his office devoted to every father’s day card we’ve made and canvases we have painted).

Supplies:

  • Painter’s Tape or cuttable Vinyl
  • Scissors or Silhouette E-machine
  • Canvas
  • Paint brushes or foam brushes
  • Acrylic paint
  • Paper plates

Directions:

  1. Use Silhouette to cut vinyl to say #1 DAD. Apply to canvas.  OR use painter’s tape to tape #1 DAD to blank canvas.
  2. Put paint blobs on paper plate.
  3. Let wild child cover the entire canvas with whichever colors they choose. (I know, sometimes it pains me that all the colors run together and make brown, but you gotta let them do what they do).
  4. Slowly peel off tape or vinyl to reveal the #1 DAD on canvas.
  5. Tie a huge ribbon bow and gift to your kids’ favorite dad!

Monster Father’s Day Card: Stampin’ Up!

Monsters Inc Father's Day Card tutorial and instructions at StampinFool.com
It’s almost Father’s Day and since I always find myself in a crunch, I am sharing a few extra projects this week that you can throw together on short notice.

Yesterday, I posted a Father’s Day Questionnaire that you can print and fill out with your children and then frame it and give it to dad.

Today, Monsters Inc is the theme.  These quick and easy handprint/footprints are a great way to show dad some love and save the kids’ prints. I have listed the supplies below needed to stamp these prints.

Directions:

  1. Ink foot in Bermuda Bay and pick up your kiddo, slowly lower them onto the paper or have them stomp once.  Stamp hand (but not middle finger) in Cucumber Crush ink.  I pressed the ink pad directly to the foot and hand making sure to cover it well.  I used tape to cover the middle finger, then removed it before pressing it onto the White paper cardstock.
  2.  Punch 1″ white circle, 1/2″ soft sky circle and make Mike’s eye.  Color with Black marker and draw smile.  Draw face on Sully.
  3. Using Rich Razzleberry ink, use index finger to add purple spots to Sully.
  4. Cut out and adhere monsters to white card stock.
  5. Write Happy Father’s Day on the card stock.

Father’s Day Questionnaire + FREE PRINTABLE

Happy Monday, Fools!  Thanks for stopping by the blog. I just realized we are only a week out from Father’s Day and that means I have scrambling to do in order to be ready for it.

I mentioned earlier last month (definitely on Instagram and here) we are on a no spend binge, the goal being to pay off student loans (I mean a lot- i.e., law school loans) earlier than the 30 year term that will never fully pay them. Keeping with the budget, we have eliminated pricey gifts.  They don’t mean anything anyways. I’m sure it’s nice to buy someone a car, or computer, or $1200 watch as a gift, but it is not more meaningful than something inexpensive and heartfelt. For our anniversary, I shared a detailed tutorial on Transferring Photos to Wood and it turned out amazing!

How To: Transfer Photos to Wood Full Tutorial

Father’s Day 2016

Keeping with our theme of saving money and paying down these astro loans, I started thinking about how I would make Father’s Day happen.  Full disclosure: I begged to build in $25 spending money each week and that allows me to buy assorted things as needed. {For Mother’s Day, I found plates on sale at Target for $34.95. Winning!}. As for Father’s Day, I know exactly what I will buy to add to this handmade gift all under $25.00.

I’ve done a lot of talking and no showing, so are you ready for the Father’s Day Questionnaire? Here’s a preview of the questionnaire {Don’t save the photo, the full  copy is Free below}.  Are those mustache’s cute or what?!?!?  I love the watercolored look.

I took the time to compile the best Father’s Day questions which should elicit funny & cute answers from your little ones. So, go ahead and click the link below to print your copy and go over it with your kids.  Make sure you snap a photo of their answers and email it to me, comment with your favorite answer, or post it on Instagram with the hashtag #SFfathersday.

Going Places, Going Global Masculine Card Set from StampinFool.com

This week I’ve been showing off the Going Global stamp set paired with Going Places designer paper in a card set.  How have you liked the cards?  Nice and manly right?!?   I have shown off these cards so far: Blue & Green Banner card and Night Sky card, Mini Banners.

Today, you’ll learn the Sunburst Technique with this brightly colored, map inspired Best Dad card.  If a “best dad” card, isn’t for you, swap out the saying for a Happy Birthday and enjoy gifting this card.  You’ll want to grab Going Global, Going Places & a paper trimmer for this card set.  Here’s a peek at the entire set & then I’ll show you today’s card #4  of the set.

While today’s card took a little more figuring out, I took all of the hard work out of it for you.  You need to pick a few different patterns from the Going Places 6″x 6″ paper stack and cut 1″, 1 1/2″, 2″, and 2 1/2″ strip of a few prints (cut them the entire 6″ length).  Make sure the patterns are varied so that you get contrast on the card.

  1. Cut the card base of Very Vanilla to 8 1/2″ x 5 1/2″.  Score at 4 1/4″.
  2. Cut each of the 1″, 1 1/2″, 2″, and 2 1/2″ strips into half diagonally, so that you have long, skinny triangles.
  3. Stamp the globe in Mossy Meadow as well as the sentiment on scrap Vanilla card stock.  The Globe will be punched out with the 2″ circle punch. Cut a 1/2″ strip to stamp the Best Dad and flag the end.
  4. Cut a 2 1/2″ square of Sahara Sand and cut in half diagonally.
  5. Place the diagonal Going Places designer paper strips with the tip being in the bottom left corner, in a pattern. (See template below for which sizes go where).  There will be extra hanging over the ends.  Make sure the card is fully covered (the pieces may overlap slightly in the bottom corner).
  6. Once you have positioned them, adhere with Snail tape runner.
  7. Cut the excess paper from the card base on all sides.
  8. Adhere the Sahara Sand triangle with adhesive. Adhere the Globe and Sentiment with dimensionals.
  9. Stamp the inside with a sentiment.

Today’s car is so simple to make.  You’ll want to cut out a few 1″ strips of the different patterns from the Going Places 6″x 6″ paper stack and punch out nine banners with the Banner Punch.  Make sure the patterns are varied so that you get contrast on the card.

  1. Cut the card base of Very Vanilla to 8 1/2″ x 5 1/2″.  Score at 4 1/4″.
  2. Cut a panel of Sahara Sand card stock to 3 3/8″ x 4 1/8″ and a piece of Vanilla to 3 1/4″ x 4″. Adhere the Vanilla piece to the Sahara Sand card stock.

Yesterday I talked about the Going Places Designer Series paper stack, a 6×6 stack of patterned prints that have a travel theme.  I showed off the first of five cards, the Blue Green Banner Card and today I’ll show you the stars.

You’ll want to grab Going Global, Going Places & a paper trimmer for this card set.  Here’s a peek at the entire set & then I’ll show you today’s card #2  of the set.

Now I just love this card.  I think it may be my favorite in the card set because the Black sky with stars combined with the Crushed Curry sentiment just pops.  Add a little bit of gold cording behind the stars and this card a perfect.  It’s sweet and manly all in one.

Love Between

It’s a simple Very Vanilla base with the starry Stampin’ Up! Going Places Designer Series Paper cut to 3 3/4″ x 4 1/2″.  Another scrap of DSP is cut into a banner and a 2″ circle of Crushed Curry is stamped with “Love knows no distance”.

The gold cording is secured to the card with dimensionals.  The banner is also on dimensionals, as well as the yellow circle.

If you have browsed through the 2016 Stampin’ Up! Occasions Catalog at all you probably noticed a world map, travel, space adventure stamp set and coordinating patterned paper. It jumped out at me and I though, I love this, but what am I going to do with it??!  It is perfect for masculine cards, but a lot of time I stall when it comes to creativity for manly cards.  What do I do when I’m stalled out- go to Pinterest and look at card layouts.  {Tip: I don’t look at card samples because that will shape what I come up with, and sometimes I just want it to look really original}.  So I picked a few of my favorite card layouts and started cutting paper.

You’ll want to grab Going Global, Going Places & a paper trimmer for this card set.  Here’s a peek at the entire set & then I’ll show you today’s card #1  of the set.

A quick note about today’s card- I added the “world’s best dad” sentiment, but you can definitely add a quick happy birthday instead without having to make any other modifications to the card.  Who says you can’t say best dad for a guy’s birthday anyways? You can totally give them a Best Dad birthday card- it’s like two compliments all in one card.

Going Places, Going Global Masculine Card Set from StampinFool.com

By now you can see that the cards have bright colors that are marbled and patterned really well.  I know you are going to love making these cards and your recipient will really enjoy getting such a thoughtful card.  Plus, we can all use a set of manly cards, right?!

  4. Staple gold cording to the top of the banner. Adhere banner to Very Vanilla card front using Snail tape runner.

Spotlight on Masculine Stamp Set: Traveler

Aren’t you always grasping to find a masculine card or stamp set.  It can be difficult to pull together the write elements for a masculine card to look manly enough, especially if you are a lady trying to make a man’s card.  Well, with the NEW 2014- 2015 Annual Catalog came this great manly stamp set called Traveler. It has carefully drawn travel elements such as a globe, ship, locomotive train, passport, suitcase and camera. The stamps have that hand drawn sketched look about them.  They are truly detailed and unique.

To keep this card many, you will want to use the new In Colors Lost Lagoon and Mossy Meadow, coupled with Baked Brown Sugar.  The little images are 1.5″ and outlined with Mossy Meadow card stock.
