A little bird of Thanks

Things I love:  Best Birds and Jars of Love.

A  few weeks ago my best friend sent me a thank you card for hosting a baby shower.  It was a bright floral wreath with a pretty little pink bird right in the middle.  It gave me the inspiration for this bird and wreath card.

I stamped a few layered flower on a scrap of Whisper White and cut them out with the Jar of Love framelits.  I finished it off with a cute Melon Mambo bird just like my inspiration.

DIY Camera Shaker Card Tutorial

DIY Camera Shaker Card Tutorial from StampinFool.com

Good Morning!  Check out today’s awesome project. Love it?  I’ll give you the details.

  • To create the camera shape, put the folded card base into the envelope punch board and punch at the 1 3/4″ mark on one side, them flip the card over and punch on the other end (same edge of the card).  Cut off the outer parts of the card leaving the middle rounded hump.
  • Use the foam strips to keep confetti/sequins in the shaker window.
  • Use 2″ and 1 3/4″ circle punches to make the camera lens quickly and easily.
  • For the decorative middle, place three rows of Pop of Pink black and gold washi tape.
  • Keep with a few colors for a bigger impact!

Quick & Easy Donut Boxes

Happy National Donut Day!! A day completely made up, but after my own heart.  We already made a quick trip out for donuts this morning, but ate them before I had a chance to snap a photo, so instead, I’m giving you the donut that keeps on giving!

This easy to make donut box can by made quick, in about ten minutes start to finish.  Grab your supplies from the list at the bottom of this post and get to making.

  1. Cut two 2 1/2″ x 11″ strips of Sahara sand. Score longways a little over 1/4″ in on both sides.  Cut little slits to the score lines on both sides about 1/4″ apart. Add tear tape to one end of each strip to form a circle.
  2. Cut Sahara Sand into two 4″ squares. Cut Blushing Bride into a 3 1/2″ square. I used the Tear & Tape and a pencil to trace the size as a guide.  Trim into a circle.  Make the Blushing Bride curvy like icing.
  3. Punch confetti hearts out of scrap paper.  Cut a scrap white circle for the center.
  4. Attach the Sahara Sand circle to the fringed circle with liquid glue. Repeat for the bottom of the box.
  5. Adhere the pink icing to the box top and decorate with confetti hearts.
  6. Enjoy!!

Teach Me Tuesday: Friends Who Know

Teach Me Tuesday: Friends Who Know video tutorial at StampinFool.com

Good Morning Crafties!  It’s Teach Me Tuesday where I’ll be showing you how to make the cute card I’m sharing.  Below is a video with instructions and I’ll walk you through it in under 10 minutes.  I’ll give you a supply list as well so that you can order the stamps and ink needed to make this beauty!

Before we get into the card and video, I have a little housekeeping to do.  It’s that time of the year- the RETIRING LIST is coming out soon.  Soon as in April 21, 2o15– that’s right around the corner- next week in fact.  I don’t want you to miss out on the things you love, but we know how quickly things go.  Sometimes they sell out at midnight.  People sit online waiting for the list to go live, and order bulk of card stock, ink, reinkers and stamps.  Let’s talk about it- we know the In Colors 2013-2015 are going.  Order them now, because on April 21st they will be gone- all gone.  It happens every year and I don’t want you to miss out!
Other things that may go (I say may, because I have not seen the list either, but these are educated guesses as to the things that typically make the list):

  • Card kits
  • 2013 In Color embellishments
  • 2013 In Color ribbon
  • 2013 In Color card stock & markers & ink
  • All Designer Series Paper
  • Some embossing folders
  • Some dies and framelits
  • Punches
  • Project Life cards?
  • Stamps…

I will be sending out an email as early as I can on the 21st with the list.  Make sure you review it and order the things you love early so they don’t sell out.  If you love the In Color collection from 2013, I suggest you order those things now, as they will sell out immediately.  Happy shopping!

I LOVE the Friends Who Know stamp set.  There are so many things to love about it.  I love that it looks like a blackboard, that it’s scripty and hand drawn; I love the doodles around it.  I love that it’s a Label Framelit shape- the shape is beautiful!  I love the size- perfect for a card front. I love that the framelit matches perfectly.  I love that it only comes in wood mount. I am a photopolymer girl all the way, but man I love this wood stamp.  It stamps so cleanly and inks up so well.  I love that it says, “We’ll Be Friends Forever because you already know too Much”.  It is so true.  It brings up hundreds of memories that I have with my best friends that I hope I will always remember (or hope to forget some of them!).  Times that we will laugh about for years, inside jokes, and even things we will keep between us forever.  It makes me think of all of the special times we had together, the fun activities that filled our years, and how much I love my besties.  It literally brings a smile to my face, and I hope that it will bring a smile to their faces when they open it.  I am absolutely mailing these out to my gals to let them know how much I love them.  (Actually, they already went out in the mail! So excited!)

THIS. CARD.  I just love the bright colors and how well Melon Mambo pairs with Bermuda Bay.  it is the perfect friend card.  I love everything about it. Get ready to make it too!

Totally Awesome Treats – Stampin’ Up!

Good Morning!  I am getting ready for the rest of my stamping classes this month and have been working on treats!  I love chocolate AND I love paper, so mixing the two is perfect!

Just a reminder- if you are local, my monthly stamp night is a special Valentine party this month.  You’ll be spoiled with treats and enjoy fun and friends while stamping.  Don’t worry, we won’t be making Valentine only cards- we will be using Painted Petals to make beautiful floral friendship cards!  See you there!

On to the crafting- I love the new Treat Bag Die.  It is adorable.  It holds a full size chocolate bar and can be made of either designer series paper or stamped card stock. Loving it!

Here is a quick example of a Treat Bag made with the Birthday Bash DSP. I love the bright colors used in the patterned paper and couldn’t pass up making this springy thing!

To make the bag you will simply run the two Framelit pieces through the Big Shot- this die cuts and scores for you. It is that simple.  Big Shot, fold, glue. Adorable!Stampin' Up! Treat Bag Die in Birthday Bash DSP, Occasions 2015 Stampin' Up! Treat Bag Die in Birthday Bash DSP, Occasions 2015

How To: Feathers from Washi Tape

Washi Tape Feathers with Happy Heart Embossing Folder from the Stampin' Up Occasions 2015

How are you liking the new Occasions 2015 Catalog this spring?  Stampin’ Up! did a really great job of giving us a TON of new products that are wonderful! I love a lot of things in the catalog, but the Happy Heart embossing folder is definitely near the top of my list.

Last week I mentioned that I watched the Stampin’ Up! Leadership conference live, via an online feed. One of the really special things that Shelly, our CEO, showed us how to make were these amazing feathers from Washi Tape.  Who would have thought?!?  But, they look AMAZING!

Do you love it? I certainly do.  I’ll admit on this card it looks fun and feminine, but you could easily pick a neutral washi tape and dark colors to give any card and instant masculine look (I’l post a picture of this later, so keep an eye out). Here’s the skinny:

  1. Lay two pieces of washi tape side by side, slightly overlapping, face up (pattern side down, sticky side up).
  2. Lay a piece of twine lengthwise in the middle of the two face up pieces of tape.
  3. Layer two additional pieces face down (pattern up) and press to seal.
  4. Cut the ends of the tape so that they taper into a point, leaving a twine tail at one end.
  5. Cut small diagonal cuts on both sides of the twine to make a feathered look.
  6. Fluff the cuts to that the feather comes to life.

What do you think? Really simple, right?  Okay here are two additional photos of this card that is embossed with Happy Hearts. I pulled apart the gold sequin trim to add sequins to the front of the card and tied a tiny gold ribbon bow at the end to the feather. This particular washi tape is from the Everyday Adventure Project Life Accessory pack, but you could easily substitute for your favorite tape.

The complete list of ingredients (supplies) is listed below the cards and there is a downloadable versions as well.  And, don’t forget to check out the WEEKLY DEALS; they are listed below also.

Luckily this week, the deals include amazing Big Shot dies AND the 1/8″ Gold Ribbon that I use on so many projects (including today’s)!  And I am stoked about the Chalkboard banner being on sale! You can use the new chalkboard ink on this banner- AMAZING!  Enjoy and don’t forget to get them while they are in stock!

Christmas Card Share

Good Morning crafters! Last week we made Holiday cards, at my day job, to send out to our usual list of networking professionals. I wanted to share some of the cards using current products to give you some new ideas on how to use them.

Festival of Trees, White Christmas by April Bailey Waltrip on Stampin' Fool

This window card uses the Tree punch to give you a peek at the White Christmas stamp set.  the Polar bear fits perfectly in the window and the Merry Christmas banner is stamped in Silver Encore ink and the words are colored with a White gel pen. A little bit of coloring with Smoky Slate, Lost Lagoon, and Soft Sky Stampin’ Write markers finish off the card and make the bear stand out.  The card also has All is Calm Washi tape for added color along the bottom.

I am really enjoying the washi tape from the Holiday Catalog.  It really adds color and texture to any card in a quick and non-distracting way.  This card has a Bermuda Bay base, Smoky Slate layer and Whisper White top. The Season’s Greetings comes from the Bright and Beautiful stamp set, snowflakes from Endless Wishes and trees from Festival of Trees bundle.

Cheerful Christmas has got to be one of my favorite stamps this season!  It is prefect for coloring the stamp with Stampin’ Markers and die cutting with framelits.  It fits perfectly into the Filigree Frame embossing folder.  Here I used a Coastal Cabana card base, Coastal Cabana, Strawberry Slush, Garden Green, and Cherry Cobbler markers to color directly onto the stamp and then stamped it onto White card stock.

When I saw the Nature’s Peace stamp set, I instantly knew I wanted it.  It had a wintery, calm look.  The deer and birds really made it over the top for me.  It was another great stamp to color. The stamp speaks for itself and needed little else to complete the card.

Lastly, the Snowflake Thinlit die cad makes a beautiful card without any extra fuss. Here we added an extra panel of All Is Calm Specialty Designer Series paper and that finished off the card. Snowflake Thinlit card by April Bailey Waltrip on Stampin' Fool

Penguin Party with Oval Framelits

How ADORABLE are these penguins?  I was asked to help make decorations for a wintery baby shower and penguins became the theme.  I Pintereste’d some ideas and found that the Oval Framelits would be a good size to make large penguins to add to a banner and as table decorations. These cute little guys stand at a whopping 5 1/2″ inches tall.

Are you ready to make these cuties?!? Grab your Big Shot and Oval framelits and let’s get started.  For each penguin, you will need one half sheet of Black card stock and one half sheet of White card stock.  You will also need Coastal Cabana, Real Red, and Pumpkin Pie scraps for the nose, feet, and penguin scarves.

Stampin’ Up! Supplies:

  • Oval Framelits
  • Big Shot
  • Curly Label Punch
  • Basic Black card stock
  • Whisper White card stock
  • Coastal Cabana card stock
  • Real Red card stock
  • Pumpkin Pie card stock
  • Googlie eyes
  • Solo cup to trace the head shape

Below I have created a graphic to show you which Ovals you will need to create the penguins.  I have also numbered them from outside (1) to the innermost, smallest oval (7).  The penguin body is the third larges, his belly is the 4th largest and the face also uses framelit 4, cut to fit the circular head.  The wing is made from framelit number 7, cut down the middle vertically.

While you are at it, you will need to cut out 2 curly labels, one for the feet (cut it in half and you have both feet) and one for the nose.  To make the nose, cut from the pointy center point to the other pointy center point (the one straight across) in an arc, to form an rounded nose (See diagram below).

Body: Adhere White Oval size 4 to the body, Black Oval size 3. Adhere feet to back of penguin.

Face: To form the face, trace the bottom of a Solo cup onto Black card stock and cut out by hand.  Slim down the white oval for face and adhere.  Use liquid glue to adhere the googlie eye to your penguin. Attach nose behind penguin’s face.  Adhere face to body, slightly overlapping.

Scarf: To make the scarf cut a 1/2″ by 8 1/2″ strip. Break down the fibers by rolling the strip against a bone folder.  Wrap the scarf around the neck and fold one side forward.  Adhere on front and back and cut fringe on each end of the scarf.

Wing: Lastly, adhere the half Black Oval size 7 to the body with the straight edge facing outward (away from face), tucking it slightly under the wing.
