I’m talking about really great, vintage shopping from sellers that use Instagram like the new Ebay and Craiglist. It’s the perfect place to find amazing vintage furniture and home decor. Rest assured almost anything can be shipped directly to your door with a little logistics and coordination.
So how do you shop on Instagram?
I’ll give you a really general bulleted list of how to shop on Instagram through finding accounts and the steps to take once you “follow” a few vintage instagram shop accounts.
Before you start buying, make sure you have a PayPal account set up and that your shipping address is correct. This is how most shops take payment and get your shipping details.
- Find sellers by a hashtag
- Check out more suggested accounts
- Follow accounts you like to stay up to date
- Check profile to see when they hold sales or whether they have a website shop
- Read the seller’s rules
- Watch for live sales
- Comment “Mine” if you want it
- Check email for invoice
- Pay by PayPal

The best way to find goods to buy on Instagram is through hashtags. Go to the search feature and start typing in words that represent your home decor style. Here are a few of my favorite, mostly traditional, but I’ll throw in a few extras also.

Secondly, once you find an account where you like the items they are posting, click the little arrow on the right (beside Email). This is the “Suggested for You” section. It will have similar accounts for you to follow. I have found some great instagram sale accounts this way.

- The seller will post photos of the item with a description, condition and price.
- Things to consider:
- is the size what you are picturing
- is it vintage or replica
- antique is 100+ years
- does it have any tears, knicks or dings notated
- is the price comparable to an estate/vintage shop
HOW TO SHOP
When it comes down to how to shop on Instagram, it will vary slightly by seller. Each Instagram shop will have slightly different rules so you will want to check their account page to see what their rules are for buying. Sellers often set things up in one of these ways: (1) hold a sale at a certain day and time each week where the post items for you to comment to buy, (2) post things as available for you to buy by commenting, or (3) direct you to a website to buy the items.
For shops that hold weekly sales by commenting “Mine”, things often go fast. So to prepare, read their rules, and be ready to comment.
TIPS FOR WINNING THE SALE
Because you use Instagram from your phone, use these shortcuts to be win the sale.
- Use the Notes app in your phone to have your email address, name, shipping address and zip code saved. You can copy and paste it into a message to the seller with the item you purchased.
- Refresh the sellers page often around the time of the weekly sale to see what has just been posted
- If you want it, comment quickly so you don’t miss it
- Make sure you comment with the right wording, (usually MINE, but again check the seller’s page to be sure)
- Check your email to pay the invoice immediately do you don’t get skipped
- Feel free to message the seller with any questions
USE YOUR BEST JUDGEMENT
Now if you’ve never done this Instagram shopping thing before I know it can be scary.
- So be vigilant in making sure the account has a decent amount of followers (5,000+). Read some of the comments on previous items for feedback from buys about how they like the item, or how quick it shipped, or the great condition.
- Never give out your credit card information (use PayPal to pay invoices).
- Only give the seller your email address to send the invoice, not your PayPal login and password.
- If things go south, contact your credit card company to dispute charges.
While there are fewer buyer protections on Instagram, you can safely navigate this new way of shopping for vintage home decor and furniture finds without leaving your couch.
